Accounts Receivable Financing   [top]
    Short term financing used to finance accounts receivable. It is usually obtained by pledging accounts receivable as collateral.


Accredited Investor   [top]
    Institutional or individual investors who meet SEC criteria regarding financial sophistication or net worth.

    To qualify as an accredited investor, an investor must either be: A) a financial institution; B) an affiliate of the issuer; or C) an individual with a net worth of at least $1 million or an annual income of at least $200,000, and the investment must not account for more than 20% of the investor’s worth.


Acquisition   [top]
    When one company takes over controlling interest of another company.


Adjusted futures price    [top]
    The equivalent of the underlying cash market instrument price that is reflected in the current futures price.


After Market   [top]
    the trading of an issuers securities (stock or bond) after the public offering has been completed.


All Hands Meeting   [top]
    A meeting among everyone involved in preparing a registration statement for a public offering, including management of the company undertaking the offering, the company’s legal counsel, the company’s auditors, underwriters, and the underwriters’ legal counsel.


All or None Offering   [top]
    A "best-efforts" offering, in which the underwriter completes the offering only if the entire issue of securities is sold.


Alpha   [top]
    A measure of selection risk (also known as residual risk) of a mutual fund in relation to the market. A positive alpha is the extra return awarded to the investor for taking a risk, instead of accepting the market return. For example, an alpha of 0.4 means the fund outperformed the market-based return estimate by 0.4 %. -0.6 means a fund’s monthly return was 0.6 % less than would have been predicted from the change in the market alone.


Analyst   [top]
    A specialist, often employed by an investment banking firm who researches and follows one or more companies or industries, their financial statements and reports with the purpose of providing investment advice and recommendations.
